Last July 20th, I stated my plan to put my blog on hiatus while I put forth on other priorities and projects in mind. One project is of course rebuilding my site and transferring it to another domain. Endless Journey, my previous blog under Carmela dot tk received tremendous visits and currently on 3rd place at google's search engine when you look for the word carmela. There are times when it hit it big in the first place and for that I am overwhelmed considering the fact that its just a free domain from dot tk and the name itself isn't just only me.
My love for webdesigning first began as a hobby in year 2002 using Geocities. While surfing the net, I found Xanga and got hooked up in blogging and the rest as they say is history. When I begun building my own site using ordinary HTML editor at comcast free webspace , I noticed the difference of having a software to do all the coding from manual structuring of text and documents using special tags. As much as I wanted to post my thoughts in between recent headlines, I started convincing myself that maybe to make things easier I could shift onto something else. I started joining other types of weblogs like photoblogging and foodblogs. The outcome was great but nevertheless become tedious in a way that before I come up with a great page, I had to tag and code it manually besides targetting a photo for the day or cooking another recipe. So I said to myself, blogging shouldn't be hard on me, I have to find ways to make things effortless and smooth on my part. And moreover, there are more important things to attend to.
After three months of pondering the name for the site, I've decided to take a plunged into the dot com world. Little did I know that registering a domain will just take a minute while looking up for the domain name will take me at least three months. LOL. I can't blame these registrants on the first place, domain buying is cheaper and easier compared to hosting a site.
Here comes the harder part, building the site. After numerous failed attempts to stay connected online, I was able to make it run for the first time. During those times, I started opting for blogging softwares between pmachine and wordpress. Pmachine has actually three products at that time, expression engine(shareware), pmachine pro(shareware) and the freeware version of it. Between wordpress and pmachine, I find the latter extremely flexible and community oriented. After testing and running pmachine on my server, pmachine announced their intention of delivering the pro version to the public for free. So I decided to switched again for more features like its mailing list and ability to introduce forum on the site. After a couple of test and rerun, I was able to build my own site using my own designs for its high flexibility unlike wordpress that is hard-coded. So I began transferring my post from the previous host--comcast, after few weeks, here comes wordpress strayhorn, breaking their 5 minute installation, more features and endless plugins. Who am I not to try this one especially pmachines developer has announced their plan of discontinuing the development of pro version and concentrate more on expression engine. After seeing the difference between the two, I started rebuilding new templates using wordpress. Imagine transferring the post again one by one, editing the designs and style sheets of three sites. It has never been easy but once you see its up and running, its very rewarding.
Why Sheer Reflection?
The main site consists of three other links to my other blogs: Sheer Reflection Blog(this journal), The Bubble Chef(foodblog), and SnapBlitz(photolog). The contents of this site are purely my thoughts, my opinions and my current state of mind in view of something I'd like to impart in those special moments of contemplating. The photographs, images and designs are all my works and should be seized upon my consent and approval.
Oh not to forget, I have always dreamt of putting our business(RTW) online, I guess the name itself is by far more appropriate to that than that of this blog. :) Anyhow, I'll stay connected.
