The following is a list of over-the-counter medications which are believed to be safe to use in pregnancy and recommended by my Ob-Gyn. Minimize use of medication if possible.
Headache
Tylenol
Upset Stomach
Mylanta
Constipation
Metamucil
Metamucil, Kaopectate
Nasal Congestion
Afrin Nasal Spray
Infections
Ampicillin, Erythromycin (antibiotics by Rx only)
Cough
Robitussin DM, vaporizer or steam with Vicks vaporub, Cepacol Lozenges, Chloraseptic throat spray.
Sore Throat
Cepacol Lozenges, Chloraseptic throat spray, non-narcotic Lozenges.
Dental Work
Local anesthetic(lidocaine), no nitrous oxide
Morning Sickness
- Avoid heavy greasy meals
- Eat something like soda crackers before rising from bed after sleeping
- Eat frequent small meals
- Small sips of flat soda or herbal tea
- Do not let stomach get completely empty
Hemorrhoids
Tucks, Preparation-H, Anusol
Varicose Veins
Jobst Stockings Crest Medical
Other medications:
Tums, Maalox, Pepto Bismol, Colace, Preparation-H or Anusol Suppositories, Benzoyl Peroxide Acne medications, Benadryl, Emetrol, Fleets Enema-without oil, Gyne-Lotrimim, Monistat (2nd trimester only), Antihistamines (Sudafed, Actifed) after 5 months(20 weeks)
Please inform any healthcare practitioners you see that you are pregnant and consult with your doctor regarding any prescribed medications.
